Mathias Manser was born in February of 1970 in Basel, Switzerland into a family of
musicians, artists and activists, yet the musical, artsy, free flowing and free thinking activist
lifestyle wasn't exactly experienced within his immediate family.
It's fair to say that Manser's ambitions as an artist weren't exactly nurtured, or at least
not as much as he would have liked. He even had a teacher in preschool telling him
to draw more child-like in order to fit in with the other kids, which left him quite discouraged if nothing else.
He finished an apprenticeship as a draftsman in 1990, and worked in the field for 8 years
thereafter, which wasn't what he truly wanted to do, but since he wasn't brought up with a silver
spoon or anything, the local art school wasn't much of an option anymore
(which probably was a blessing in disguise).
Since his father was a professional musician, he naturally started gravitating towards music
and all the joys and pains of the so-called "starving musician"
After a vacation to New York with his father in 1996 however, where he had the pleasure
of seeing numerous live bands, he had now a desire to pursue a career in music for real.
He now felt compelled to save up money, leave Switzerland, and move to the US to study music
at the famous "Musicians Institute" in Hollywood,
from where he graduated with honors in 2000.
After trying to make it as a musician / artist on his own while working a job as a designer and
keeping up with the ever growing demands of his family and kids etc,
his dreams of making it in the music industry finally evaporated...
In 2012 his world completely changed after receiving a channeled message to which fate had guided him.
He started to draw and paint again as he did as a kid and found that he was meant to do this after all.
Everything from that moment on fell into place
as if he had tapped into his true soul's purpose. It seems it had to take all of this to come full circle
for Manser to be able to create the art you are seeing today.
Manser's goal is to keep his art organic and intuitive while incorporating
modern tools to help bring his work to life.
He achieves this without compromising the natural flow of his initial vision.
Although using a digital medium to create his art, he refuses to use any shortcuts to achieve his goal.
Every single stroke on his digital canvases is an individual one!
In a world that seems to be getting darker and increasingly more apathetic by the minute,
I feel it is my responsibility to create art that speaks to the depths of the soul
in a very positive and self-empowering way rather than amplifying the existing discord and imbalance
that is dictated by the current status quo
